Many of us use satellites every day, without even thinking about it. The idea of a satellite goes as far back as 1896 in a short story, but the first academic piece about satellites was published in 1903 by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, titled The Exploration of Cosmic Space by Means of Reaction Devices. Since the publication of this paper, the world started exploring all kinds of ideas and the first artificial satellite was launched in October 1957 by the Soviet Union, it was called Sputnik 1.
Since the launch of Sputnik 1, more and more satellites were placed in space and today there are hundreds of satellites orbiting the earth every day. While some of these satellites are there to gather information to send back to earth, for example the Hubble, there are 24 which are probably the most used. The US Military launched these satellites to assist with navigation but they soon made them available to the world and therefore the advent of GPS navigation systems. Only 21 of these satellites are in use at any one time, the other three are on standby if something happens to one of the others.
The use Skygistics use these satellites for is to give fleet owners peace of mind, 24 hours a day. By using these satellites you can always know where your valuable assets are, from vehicles to livestock and even containers out on the open seas.
